I have to say, the local news are being contradicting abt the current global recession.
From Mondays to Fridays, headlines scream across the ST front page and breaking news on www.straitstimes.com:
+ “xx,xxxx to lose jobs in Q1″
+ “x CEOS told to go”
+ “Co. xxxx to axe xxxx jobs”
Fast-forward to Sunday - and the angles are twigged to an upbeat note:
+ “xx ways of improving your job search”
+ “Property market stirring”
Who are they trying to kid? Do we not know things are really tough-going at this point of time, but do we also need bad news to keep reminding us about it?
If the editors of the local papers are really concerned for the readers - be it the retrenched, jobless, reborn entrepreneurs (moi included), parents with young children still going to school, the ageing population etc etc - stop being negative please.
Take a lesson from the neighboring countries and nurture the ‘kampong’ spirit where the refocus is on basic needs, not an accumulation / sustainability of wealth or material assets.
Behind every cloud lies a sliver lining.
Behind every misfortune, turn it around and make it an opportunity!
